Pastarami (Interior)
Neighborhood Pasta & Wine
End to end service for a Pasta & Wine bar
Strategy, Branding, Interior, Collateral
BRIEF
Peter Roddy of Noir, a celebrated French Restaurant on Swan Street in Richmond came to us with a vision to renovate his venue into a lively and youthful pasta bar. Creating a visual departure from its predecessor, he wanted the space to be bright and airy to set it apart from the intimate and moody setting of Noir. The design was to focus on being warm, inviting, and contemporary, with a welcoming atmosphere that appeals to affluent millennials, couples wanting a weekly date night, friends wanting to celebrate or anyone young and old. The interior was to be cost-effectively crafted to achieve a youthful, vibrant space that encourages guests to linger and exquisite pasta with perfectly matched wine.
APPROACH
We aimed to create a vibrant and youthful Italian concept focusing on lazy afternoon dining in a relaxed setting —focusing on flipping the Noir narrative by taking a well-loved and sophisticated bistro and bringing to life a new brand that would feel re-energised and contemporary. Serving freshly made pasta and curated wines, Peter wanted to tap into the weekday dining market by making the venue light and approachable without compromising on quality produce, food and wine. The interior focuses on the same ethos, with cream coloured rendered walls, paired back timber joinery and curated artwork and styling.
OUTCOME
We aimed to create a space that feels like an extension of your living room. With personal touches and nostalgic finishes, Pastarami feels like you are walking into Nonnas working cottage with stucco walls and vinyl flooring, but with a contemporay flair. The restaurant is a beacon of warm lighting cast along buff beige rendered walls. Peering through the venetian blinds you are met with a chequer board vinyl floor, adding a certain nostalgia to the space. The scalloped banquette pillow cases are sourced from Bed Threads, evoking a silhouette of ravilli pillows, they also give a residential and homely feel. The timber throughout the space is a mix of Messmate and Tasmanian Oak to warm up and liven the palette. Artwork throughout have been curated by the design team from british artist Carla Llanos from her 'summer stories' range, adding another layer of easy breeziness to the restaurant.
